Road Reclamation

Road Reclamation

This process involves the in-situ recycling of roads, tracks and paths. By utilising our specialist machinery we can transform a tired, potholed track into a new road capable of carrying today’s heavy machinery.

We are also able to incorporate small percentages of cement dust and other stabilising products to further enhance the road bearing capacities.

Road Recycling

Step 1.
The process of recycling roads is a simple but effective method of crushing the existing material to produce the required mix of fines and small stones. This is produced by the Meri crusher which can work to a depth of 300mm. However, we normally only crush to a depth of 150mm or just below the bottom of the pot holes. If you crush much deeper you can have difficulty compacting the entire depth of crushed material.

Step 2.
Once we’ve created the required mix of material we are then able to re-grade and create a fall to aid drainage. This is vital in prolonging the life of any track or road. If water is allowed to sit on any given area, erosion will start and more vehicles which pass through will quickly form a pot hole. The grading is carried out using a hydraulic 3 way blade mounted on a tractor.

Step 3.
The re-compaction of the track is vital as is the type of machine used. If the track is going to be left with a dome effect then our triple wacker plates are required. These ‘hug’ the road and follow the contours while the vibration helps compact the particles below the surface.

If the track is produced with a level fall from one side to another, then our 120 type twin drum rollers are suitable. These are identical to those which we use on our road building operations and are self-propelled. The benefit of these is that we can add water to the track via mounted spray bars on the roller itself. This gives a much neater effect especially when rolling up after cement dust has been added.

Other uses for the crusher:
» Tarmac roads to produce road plannings
» Producing waste pads with crushed concrete
» Scrub and tree root clearance
» Stabilising soil with quicklime/flyash etc

Stabilising with Concrete dust:
We have the ability to create hard, sealed areas by incorporating cement dust into materials. This is most suitable for composting stations and sugar beet pads along with haul routes for heavy vehicles. The process is the same as above but we mix in cement and water to the areas. The percentages of cement and water must be right otherwise cracking can form and weakness appears. For this service one of our team will come and do a site visit and advise on the best products to use.
